My newsletter Art Blotter Plus is now live on Substack!
Why Blotter?
Since Substack is a hybrid newsletter/blog, I combined 'blog' with 'newsletter' and came up with "bletter."
"Bletter" sounded like a bleeting sheep so I settled on 'blotter'.
I like Blotter because it evokes an old-fashioned desk with an ink stained blotter.
Blotter paper reminds me of the absorbent gesso ground I paint my egg tempera paintings on.
It "is a natural white colored, unglued, unbuffered, minimally pressed paper, the structure of which allows efficient absorption of liquids well through capillary action." (link to Klug Conservation)
It also reminds me that I licked LSD off blotter paper back in 1967 - my first and only acid trip. So "blotter" could be a metaphor for expanded consciousness.
And finally there is "police blotter."
I like the tinge of crime --art can be dangerous and illegal!
